Biografía del Artista

Wanda Fraga Sánchez de la Campa nació en el año 1994 en la ciudad de Santa Clara (Cuba). Hija de una madre soltera y un padre emigrante, desde pequeña paso la mayoría de su tiempo sola sin tener contacto constante con otros niños; lo que hizo que el arte ocupara gran parte de su niñez y fuera su compañía. Ya desde pequeña acumulaba gran número de premiaciones, asombrando tanto a sus profesores como a los que se acercaban a su trabajo (sobre todo poético) por su profunda visión de la vida a tan corta edad.

En el año 2010 comienza sus estudios en la Academia Profesional de Artes "Leopoldo Romañach" la cual abandona en el año 2013. Luego de dejar la Academia de artes, Wanda trabaja por su cuenta buscando desarrollar su trabajo artístico. En el mismo año la artista presenta su primera exposición personal. En el año 2014 a petición de sus profesores regresa a la Academia nuevamente y se gradúa. En este nuevo periodo que Wanda trascurre en la institución, se hace notorio la seriedad que ha adquirido su trabajo, más allá de la ingenuidad de una joven estudiante de arte, su obra ha evolucionado hacia un trabajo más complejo.

Wanda se ha redescubierto, poniéndose en contacto definitivo con su propia interioridad, lo cual se hace evidente en su obra. La soledad y el sentimiento de abandono que ha sido constante en su vida se ve claramente reflejado en su trabajo, donde el hombre siempre es puesto en contraste con el medio social, como si se tratase de una realidad fragmentada.

Fragmentos de recuerdos, personas, situaciones y objetos que la han determinado como persona se presentan ahora en su trabajo, aludiendo a ellos con la responsabilidad de compartirlos, quizás buscando así, restablecer ese lazo que Wanda nunca sintió tener con el mundo. Por lo que su obra dialoga de manera obsesiva sobre sus experiencias de la niñez, de lo que ha visto y ha experimentado como: niña, ahora mujer y ser humano. Del dolor de vivir en una isla rodeada de agua, que rodea pero separa al mismo tiempo, de crecer en un país que es un collage, de culturas razas e influencias.

Wanda Fraga Sánchez comienza entonces a explorar en su obra la visualidad del Bad Painting, el Minimal Art, el cartel, así como los presupuestos del Arte Conceptual; en busca de una técnica que se adapte mejor a las emociones que intenta comunicar; resolviendo entonces, que el collage es su mejor punto de partida. Siendo su mejor aliado para presentarnos su vida, que en definitiva es el verdadero soporte donde se desarrolla su arte.

Wanda Fraga Sánchez de la Campa was born in 1994 in the city of Santa Clara (Cuba). Daughter of a single mother and an emigrant father, from small step most of her time alone without constant contact with other children; which made art occupy much of her childhood and was her company. From the time she was a little girl, she accumulated a great number of prizes, astonishing both her teachers and those who came to her work (especially poetic) for her profound vision of life at such a young age.

In 2010 she began her studies at the Professional Academy of Arts "Leopoldo Romañach" which she leaves in 2013. After leaving the Academy of Arts, Wanda works on her own to develop her artistic work. In the same year the artist presents her first personal exhibition. In 2014 at the request of her teachers she returns to the Academy again and graduates. In this new period that Wanda spent in the institution, it becomes notorious the seriousness that has acquired her work, beyond the naivety of a young art student, her work has evolved towards a more complex work.

Wanda has rediscovered herself, making definitive contact with her own interiority, which is evident in her work. The loneliness and the feeling of abandonment that has been constant in her life is clearly reflected in her work, where man is always contrasted with the social environment, as if it were a fragmented reality.

Fragments of memories, people, situations and objects that have determined her as a person are now presented in her work, alluding to them with the responsibility of sharing them, perhaps seeking to restore that bond that Wanda never felt to have with the world. So her work dialogues obsessively about her experiences of childhood, what she has seen and experienced as: girl, now woman and human being. From the pain of living on an island surrounded by water, which surrounds but separates at the same time, from growing into a country that is a collage, from cultures to races and influences.

Wanda Fraga Sánchez then began to explore in her work the visuality of Bad Painting, Minimal Art, the poster, as well as the presuppositions of Conceptual Art; in search of a technique that is better suited to the emotions she is trying to communicate; solving then, that the collage is her best starting point. Being her best ally to present us her life, which in the end is the true support where her art is developed.
